2011 UVU Conference on Adoption

Yes! It's that time of year again. The Conference is next Friday (Nov. 4th)!! I know this may be kind of late notice for some of you who may be interested in attending, but today's the last day to preregister (although not your last chance, the price just goes up a bit, but it's SO worth it!). Click here to learn more about the conference and/or to register. It's going to be a great one, as usual! Hope you can make it!

Hillbilly Joke of the Day

Never Choke in a Restaurant in the South

Two hillbillies walk into a restaurant. While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation. Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, "Kin ya swallar?" The woman shakes her head no. Then he asks, "Kin ya breathe?" The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no. The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue. The woman is so shocked that she gives a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the hillbilly walks slowly back to his table. His partner says, "Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I ain't niver seed nobody do it!"

Hope you had a good laugh :)
(Dar got this joke from one of the faculty members at work.)

Golden Sunset at Antelope Island

Dar had fall break last Thursday and Friday, and it was SO nice to have him home for a couple extra days with us, but it went by WAY too fast! We wanted to do something fun during his time off, so on Thursday we went to visit my family and took a short trip out to Antelope Island with my Dad and niece, Dakoda (we didn't get any pictures of them, but they were there!). It's been years since I've been to the island, but this was the first time for Darwin & Aurora. I wish we'd had more time, but we can always go again :)

We got there just a couple hours before sunset, and it was almost the perfect time. We weren't able to see a couple things because they closed at 5. We'll have to go a little earlier next time.
We saw some wildlife
A different view of the Wasatch Mountains
Salt Lake City off in the distance
The sun getting ready to set
Dar caught a brine shrimp: the only thing that lives in the water
We got to stick our feet in the Great Salt Lake
Our traditional family photo shoot :)
Cool sillouhette Dar took of me and the munchk
And the amazingly beautiful golden sunset was absolutely breathtaking!!

10.11.11 - 9 months!

Our beautiful baby girl is 3/4 of a year already?! Where has the time gone? It's crazy to think she's now been out longer than she was in...if ya know what I mean ;) Why is it that time seems to be flying faster now that she's here than when we were waiting for her to arrive? Someone needs to invent a machine that slows down time. Any takers?

Rori's 9 month stats:
Weight: 16 lbs 5 oz (9%)
Length: 26 in (7%)
Head: 41.5 cm (1%)

She's definitely our teeny little bobbin, but that sure doesn't stop her from doing anything (except eating dairy...she doesn't have a choice about that one because she's unfortunately allergic, poor thing)! Her iron was low yesterday so we have to start her on an iron supplement, and the doc said that could be part of why she's staying so little, but she's not too worried, so I'm not either. We love our teeny little nugget!

At 9 months:
-Aurora has 6 teeth - 4 on top and 2 on bottom...and she bites hard!! Luckily biting isn't a common occurrence, but if you happen to get your finger in her mouth, watch out!
-She's definitely crawling and pulls herself up to just about anything she can and walks along the furniture. Walking along the furniture is probably her favorite thing to do right now.
-She's starting to say words! Her vocab includes: Mom, baba, Da (for dad), and Hi. She can also sign "all done" and "more", and she can wave...all of course only done when she wants to.
-She gives the BEST baby kisses...I seriously can't get enough of those slobbery smooches! Especially when she grabs my ears and pulls me in for a good one :)
-She's a Momma's girl, but she sure loves her Daddy too.
-She likes to watch out the window and wave bye to Daddy when he leaves for work in the morning.
-Her napping schedule is WAY off from the awesome schedule she was on a month ago, but we're working on trying to get her back on track.
-She's a smart little stinker! And we LOVE watching her grow and learn new things.

And...Rori hit two landmarks yesterday:
1. First goose egg on the head. Ouchie!
2. Last night she stood for about 3-4 seconds by herself without holding on to anything!! Way to go, babe!

We love you, Aurora!!
