Happy October 1st! I love October! Although, it's kind of sad to me that the only posts I got up in September that actually happened in September were Nastassia's special day and Savannah's 6 month update. Oh, well. I'm still working on trying to get caught up! Obviously.
September 7th was the big day for harvesting our honey this year. We were super excited we actually had enough honey to extract because we didn't get any last year--it was a bad year for our hives. Darwin invited his dad to go with him to extract the honey so I could stay home and get some things done around the house and not have to worry about keeping our two little munchkins entertained for several hours while he extracted the honey. I would have loved to go with him though.
Uncapping the honey before putting the frame in the extractor
Melting the wax caps off
Going into the extractor!
Ready to spin
It goes through a filter once it comes out of the extractor
We got 5 gallons between the two of our hives this year--one did really well and the other one did okay
This is all the wax Dar took off the frames in those first couple pictures
There's actually quite a bit of honey that comes out with the wax so Dar warms it up to separate the wax and the honey--we got another gallon of honey out of that! I thought the melted wax looked kind of cool, so we took a couple pictures :)
Darwin put together a nice little website for our honey products--hopefully this will grow bigger over the years because we'd like to get more hives over time and maybe make a side business of it at some point. For now, this will do :)
We decided to change our name from Deming Honey to BeeZee Honey Co. because Aurora calls the bees "bee-zee's". She loves those bees! It's pretty cute actually. So, click here for a link to our website.
If you're local and want to order some of our honey, you can email us at beezeehoney@hotmail.com or you can order through the website under the "Product Pricing" tab.
Yay for super delicious raw honey and the amazing bees that make it!
