Day 3 of our vacation, we drove down to The Trees of Mystery for a couple hours to soak in the last little bit of the Redwoods that we could before heading up the coast to the beach house we'd be staying in for the next week.
Day 3 of our vacation, we drove down to The Trees of Mystery for a couple hours to soak in the last little bit of the Redwoods that we could before heading up the coast to the beach house we'd be staying in for the next week.
I love the trees lining the roads.
A glimpse of the ocean from the coastal road.
When we got to the Trees of Mystery, we were greeted by Paul Bunyan and Babe!
Rori didn't want to be in the picture with us. But she got to talk to Paul Bunyan before we left to head to the beach house!
Her conversation with Paul went like this:
Rori: "Paul, where did you find Babe?"
Paul: "In Minnesota"
Rori: "You mean like Tiny Soda?"
(anyone seen the movie Rio?)
Paul: "No, when I drink a soda it's got to be like Jacuzzi size!"
Haha!
Neither one of the girls were very photogenic that day. Sillies.
We got them to warm up to it though :)
"Sleeping" on the bear.
Sasquatch was everywhere! Big ones and little ones. This was one of the bigger ones, and just a little creepy. Haha!
After checking out the gift shop (because we weren't exactly sure where to go to get into the main attraction), we finally found where we needed go and got to see some really cool Redwoods again.
Nature's Underpass
Lightning Rod tree
Just a cool shot looking straight up into the trees from where we were standing.
This is called The Cathedral. They hold hundreds of weddings here every year. There's even a specific trail leading to The Cathedral that is only open for wedding ceremonies.

This tree was super cool! It was one giant that had other full trees growing off of it's high branches. I can't remember for sure how many trees were growing in this "family", but it seemed like it was 14 trees! It's not a very good shot of it at all. You really have to just go see it in person :)
After hiking about .5 mile through the trees, you get to a tram that takes you up several hundred feet to the top of the mountain. Each tram car only holds 6 people. I was a little nervous myself to get in it (although I was just fine as long as I didn't look straight down), and our girls were not at all thrilled to be going on it. In fact, they were scared and not happy that we were making them do it. But, after getting in the tram and having the doors closed, they actually enjoyed it. They started waiving to every tram that we passed and when we got done and came back down the mountain, they wanted to go do it again! Haha! I'm glad we make them try new things, even when they don't want to.
(You can tell from their faces that they weren't excited about it at first. Poor little things.)
Rori looking out at the huge Redwood trees below us.
This is called the Candelabra tree because it looks like one :)
On the second leg of our hike, there were a bunch of sculptures on the trail. The girls thought that some of them were pretty cool.
This picture cracks me up :)
The sign next to this sculpture says "Pooped Logger"
We thought this one looked a little creepy!
In the jungle! Haha.
After we finished at The Trees of Mystery, we loaded the girls back in the car for another 5 hour drive up the coast to get to Lincoln City, OR where the beach house was. We didn't get any pictures of our drive up there--it wasn't super exciting--but when we got to the beach house, Aunt Georgiana, Aunt Andrea, Grandma and Grandpa had all arrived there shortly before we did! The girls were super excited to see their aunts again :)
Everyone piled onto the bed in Grandma and Grandpa's room (minus a few of us)
After figuring out who would be staying in which bedroom, we headed down to the beach!
Ah! There's nothing like being on the beach at sunset!
It was windy and a bit chilly!
I love this shot of Savy!
Darwin rinsing the sand out of his shoes :)
Rori and Aunt Georgiana hiding in a hut made of driftwood.
Me and my lovey!
Rori collecting sand.
Shortly after we got to the beach house, Savannah walked right into the glass kitchen table which hit her just below eye-level and she had a bruise under her left eye for several days. She's definitely more accident prone that Aurora has been. Plus, she got like 4 mosquito bites in the same spot, right around where she got her goose-egg at the car dealership a couple months back. The bites were so bad it made her look like she had another goose-egg too! Poor thing.
Beautiful, sandy beach, at sunset!
Our girls shared a bed during our stay at the beach house. They don't mind one bit though, and really like to have sleep-overs together, even though they sleep in the same room at home :) Little cuties!
And that wraps up Day 3!
