July 26, 2016 - Denver Aquarium
After visiting the Butterfly Pavilion we headed straight to our next stop at the Denver Aquarium, the same day. We have a pretty cool aquarium not too far from where we live, but the Denver Aquarium had some things our aquarium doesn't so it was a stop we wanted to make while we were there.
They sure love their silly face photos!
Aurora, the shark tank survivor!
(The pictures of the rest of us didn't turn out so well, so you just get to see Rori's)
An otter
Savy watching some fish swim.
This was a flash flood simulator. We were a little unsure what was going on when we heard thunder clap in this section of the aquarium and then water start rushing down from no where. It freaked our girls out, to say the least! This was probably their least favorite part of the whole trip.
Once we made it safely past the flash flood zone we enjoyed the peaceful aquariums again. Our sweet little Talmage even enjoyed looking at the fishies!
Our aquarium in Utah has a cool hallway like this one, but the one in Denver is bigger. It was fun to watch the stingrays swim above us as we walked through.
Talmage was a little unsure of what to think of the whole thing, but he seemed pretty mesmerized by watching the stingrays swim overhead..
A spotted eel.
There was an audio recording in one part that was a little too loud :)
A flounder. They're such strange fish!
Savannah inside a viewing bubble :)
Then Aurora joined in!
We thought it was a little odd that they had a tiger at the aquarium, but cool too.
Darwin and the girls went up on a viewing bridge to try and see the tiger a little better. Talmage and I stayed below. The girls made Daddy take a picture of Talmage and me while they were up high.
A hands-on zone where we could touch some sea urchins and sea stars. Aurora wasn't really interested in touching anything, but Savannah thought it was pretty cool.
We thought these fish were pretty.
A lion fish--they're poisonous!
A barracuda.
The girls really didn't like the shark tank. Darwin and I thought it was pretty neat though. It was a BIG tank!
We always love looking at the jellies! They're pretty cool.
And every aquarium must have a really cool octopus! The girls thought this guy's name is Hank, like the one on Finding Dory :)
The highlight of the aquarium for all of us was eating dinner at the restaurant there and getting the chance to watch a mermaid show three times while we ate our yummy dinner (the food really was delish!). We had a great table location. Our booth was right by the main window for the show. It was perfect!
The girls waiting for the mermaid show to start.
Talmage slept through most of dinner. Go figure :)
Getting cozy while patiently waiting.
A mermaid!
Aurora was saying "hi" to her :)
Another mermaid!
The girls thought it was pretty cool to see mermaids! Although Aurora knew they weren't real mermaids. She said she could see their feet :) Either way, it was really cool and both girls got to buy a mermaid souvenir at the gift shop to remember the experience. They danced in the bubbles outside the aquarium with their mermaids for a few minutes before we headed back to the rental house.
Bubbles!
Savannah told me, "Hey, Mom! My mermaid wants to go check out that shark." It was really funny the way she said it. Talmage wanted his picture taken by the fun shark outside the aquarium too ;)
They took a picture of us in front of a blue screen at the beginning of the aquarium and tried to get us to buy it at the end. I was grateful they sent us an electronic copy of it so we didn't buy the package. I thought it turned out pretty cool. It's a fun background!
The Denver Aquarium was definitely a fun, memorable stop on our trip. The girls still talk about how cool the mermaid show was. That is something we don't have at our aquarium here in Utah. We highly recommend the aquarium in Denver if you're ever in that area!
