I'm sure I've talked about Aurora's food allergies on the blog before. When she was a baby we found out she was allergic to eggs and dairy. Then at 1 year old we found out she's severely allergic to peanuts. Her peanut allergy is definitely the scariest--we have an epi-pen with us at all times for that one. Her dairy allergy is the one we bump into the most though because dairy is in SO many things! Yummy things, I might add. Luckily she's over her egg allergy and can eat eggs just fine. She's doing better with dairy, but we're still pretty cautious about it because it's not fun to have a sick child.
A couple years ago, my parents discovered some "cows milk", as Aurora calls it, that Aurora can drink--straight from the carton. It's produced right here in Utah at Gossner Foods. She doesn't like to drink it straight from the carton (unless it's one of the flavored milks they make, like strawberry) but I use it a lot in cooking. It's especially handy for making things like pudding. I've tried making pudding with soy milk but soy milk doesn't set up (and I personally don't like the flavor either). It's been amazing to have this product to use in our home and allows our sweet little girl the opportunity to eat certain meals she otherwise wouldn't be able to.
After all of that, the point I was getting to was that we ran out of our "special cow's milk" the week just before Labor Day weekend. Logan is a bit of a drive for us, but we don't mind. We love Logan! It holds a special place in Darwin's heart and in mine as well. So, we took the opportunity to spend the Saturday of Labor Day weekend up in Logan and stock up on some more Gossner milk.
Our first stop of the day was at Whittier Park, a park we've never been to, but it was recommended by our good friends we would meet up with that night. We spent a couple of hours there to eat our lunch and just play for a while. And the weather was perfect!
I'm so glad these two are such great friends!
Even Daddy got in on the fun! :)
He's really just a big kid. I love it!
It really was a fun park! Check out this boat!
Steering the boat.
Making music together.
Playing peek-a-boo!
Cuties.
Rori wanted to do it by herself. The tire was hot in the sun! She was pretty good about trying to only touch the parts in the shade though.
They played on the slides for a long time! It's seriously the best sound in the world to hear my family laughing and having fun together. It doesn't get any better than that!
Daddy only got stuck a couple of times :)
It's a little fuzzy, but I love this picture of Savannah!
This bridge was a little scary for Savannah, but she was brave with Daddy's help!
Aurora was proud that she could do it all by herself!
The climbing wall was pretty fun.
The wall was a little small for Daddy ;)
He cracks me up!
(He was peeking over the wall to say hi to the girls.)
On the tire swing together. We laughed and laughed because we were trying to get the girls to get off the swing but Aurora's feet just kept going and they kept spinning and spinning. You really just had to be there, but it was pretty funny :)
We finally got them off the swing and back into the car so we could head to one of our favorite places in Logan, Willow Park Zoo. We really just go there to see the animals, not play at the park.
Looking at some exotic birds.
Capuchin monkeys. They're so cute!
A trail marker giving directions to the different animals.
It's hard to see them, but there are two coyotes sleeping by the base of the tree.
Testing their jumping skills :)
A bunch of peacocks (or "poococks" as Savannah said once. Haha!)
I've never seen a white one, like the one on the far left. Super pretty!
A closer shot of the white one.
A couple of caribou.
A pretty pheasant.
A great, big tortoise! I love them!
The peacocks were free to roam around the park. The girls loved looking for them in the different areas as we walked around the zoo.
Their favorite part was finding pretty peacock feathers on the ground. We had quite the collection of feathers by the time we left!
A sleeping raccoon.
A white raccoon!
And a white porcupine!
A great, big, sleeping iguana.
Measuring up next to a Grey Crowned Crane.
Savannah made Daddy do it too :)
A couple of emus.
I can't remember what this little thing is called, but it sure is cute!
A pelican.
One of the highlights for Daddy and the girls was getting to feed some reindeer!
When we were done at Willow Park Zoo, we headed to Gossner Foods to get our much needed milk and then to Lazy One, a fun pajama store. We got the girls some new monster jammies for Halloween and then headed to the Logan LDS temple to take some pictures. It was starting to get pretty chilly at this point, but we were just loving being together in Logan.
Our little beauties in front on the Logan temple.
Being silly :)
Our family :)
They're not old enough to go inside the temple yet, but being close and being able to touch it is pretty special for them!
After visiting the temple for a little bit we headed over to have dinner with our good friends, Danny and Liz, and their four cute kids. It's been several years since I've seen them (Darwin got to see them about a year and a half ago when he was doing some research up in Logan) and we love being able to spend time with them! We sure miss having them closer to us! Thanks again for hosting us! We love you guys!
