We told the girls not to peek because...
...we had something special to tell them.
There's going to be a new baby in our family!
(Ultrasound taken 8.28.15 at 11.5 weeks)
Aurora was hilarious. She was not surprised at all. She told us she already knew there was a baby in my tummy. Smarty pants. Savannah didn't quite understand the significance of our news. She's slowly starting to get it though.
We had them color cards to give our parents for Grandparent's Day to share our happy news with them too!
Some people know already, but we had our 3rd pregnancy loss back in February. I was only 8 weeks along with that pregnancy, which is the earliest I've miscarried so it was a blessing in some ways. But, I really struggled for a while that we had yet another pregnancy loss. We did have some warning from the beginning that something was not quite right because my HCG levels were not where they should have been according to my dates, but it was still extremely hard on me (and Darwin, but to a lesser degree) to lose another one. I was pretty depressed this time around...again. I finally came to terms with it a few months later and was okay with not being pregnant, even though we weren't getting pregnant again but wanted to be.
Because of our uneasiness at the beginning of our pregnancies, we generally wait a while to share the news. On September 30th, at 16.5 weeks I had another ultrasound (our third one at that point) with the Perinatal doctors at the hospital to check on things and see how our baby is growing. They were able to see most of what they were looking for, and for being so small our baby looked great! It was at 13 weeks along that we found out Nastassia had some chromosome abnormalities, and her heart stopped at 16 weeks, so it was a huge sigh of relief to see this little one was growing well. Even though Savannah was born healthy and strong after we lost Nastassia, I'm still a nervous wreck at the beginning of my pregnancies. I can't really help it.

Look at those amazing little fingers!!

We've never gotten 3-D ultrasound photos before, so this was fun for us. Fun to see a little smirk on the baby's face in this one:
And look at that cute little button nose! That's the umbilical chord up over the right shoulder.
Another nice thing about getting several early ultrasounds, other than helping with my piece of mind, is that we get to find out our baby's gender earlier than most people do. It was a bit of crazy day, going from one thing to the next and right after our ultrasound we went straight to Aurora's last soccer game. It was hard to not say anything during the game, but Darwin couldn't even wait for us to get home to do our gender reveal with our girls and a few of our close friends who were there to watch Aurora and Mr. P play in their last game.
Our girls closing their eyes, ready for the reveal
And we didn't get a shot of their specific colored candy, but this image should do the trick for our blog readers...
We're having a BOY!!!
Again, Aurora was hilarious and not at all surprised. She knew it was a boy all along. In fact, she would get frustrated with us trying to prep her for the fact that it could be a girl again. One time when I was talking to her about it she said, "Mom. You're not hearing me. It is a boy!" We were very grateful, especially for her sake, that we're having a boy this time because she's been praying for over a year (and telling everyone for that long too) that we're having a baby brother. We were so glad for it to be true!
We just had another ultrasound at 22.5 weeks to check up on things and for the Perinatal doctors to try and see what they weren't able to at 16.5 weeks. Everything looks great!
Our little munchkin is getting bigger and more cramped in there!
And, just for our sake they took a peek to double check that he's still a boy ;) It was harder to see this time around because he was not being very cooperative and had his legs squeezed together.
I'm 23 weeks along at this point, and we are all definitely looking forward to meeting our little guy in March. I started feeling him move around 15 weeks and he's been super wiggly and a kicker from the start! We already have a name picked out, although I'm not going to say what it is yet just in case there's a tiny chance we end up changing our minds. I highly doubt we'll come up with something we like more than what we've been planning on for years at this point, but we'll just play it safe :)
We can't wait to meet you, baby boy!
