Honeycomb

Our very nice neighbors, who we really don't know well at all, gave us a 1 lb slab of honeycomb on Monday. He and his dad have several beehives and they're beginning to harvest their honey. D is in love with it!! It's pretty cool because you can just take a bite of the honeycomb, eat the honey and chew on the comb because it's like wax, and then spit it out when you're done chewing on it. Like I said, D loves it. He's nearly eaten the entire slab already! I've only tasted the honey with my finger and it's delish! I'm really not into chewing on the actual honeycomb though. My tummy is too weak right now! :) Thanks to our neighbor, D's interest in beekeeping has been piqued and now he wants a beehive too so we can harvest our own honey. Remember when he told me he wanted to breed snakes? Hmmm....Sorry I dash all your dreams, babe.

Should I laugh or cry? How about both?

This seriously is a frequent occurrence at our house: D makes me laugh so hard I cry. If you know D even a little bit, you know he's a funny guy, but you should try living with him! :) Sunday was one of those days. It's really an inside joke that started it so I won't explain it, but D thought my reaction was so funny this time he got the camera out. Thanks, babe.

We have LOTS of things we like to laugh about & we unintentionally created some new things to laugh about on Sunday after church. Laughing with D is one of my most favorite things in the world! Seriously though, what would we do without laughter in our lives?

Amaia is 5!

My adorable niece, Amaia, turned 5 last Friday. I know this is a week late, but I just got the pictures from my mom this week. I can't believe how grown-up she is becoming!!

Lion King!!

Remember this? . . .
That was way back in February when D & I camped out on the sidewalk outside Capitol Theatre to buy tickets for the Lion King. Well, the date finally came this last Saturday & we had a blast!! The costumes were incredible, the music and acting was amazing, and the company was great too! We had a wonderful time!

1st we had a delicious dinner at Macaroni Grill. Mmm!

Kids say the Darndest Things

D & I had the opportunity to watch my cousin's 3 kids while they took a "couple's only" trip to Lake Powell for 5 days this last week. It was fun to be able to spend time with Ben, Christopher & Abbie for a few days. With D at work, Ben & Christopher in school all day & Abbie at preschool for only 2.5 hours a day, Abbie & I got to spend quite a bit of time together. She is such a funny girl & I couldn't resist writing down some of her Abbie-isms. She sure makes us laugh!

*Abbie was eating cheese & crackers for lunch before school on Wednesday. Her string cheese rolled off the table onto the floor a couple times and Abbie in a frustrated voice says, "This string cheese is going to drive me to drink!"

*D & Abbie were having a conversation about school:
D: Abbie, do you go to high school?
A: No.
D: Why not?
A: Because I'm not high!!

*A lunch-time conversation between Abbie & me:
A: Do you go to school too?
K: Not anymore. I graduated. I finished elementary school, then junior high, then high school, then college.
A: Does BYU mean college?
K: BYU is a college but I went to a college called UVU.
A: Oh! Hailey (her brother's friend) is a UofU fan!
K: Yes, but UVU is different than UofU. UofU is the University of Utah and UVU means Utah Valley University. Do you know what BYU means?
A: Cheer for the BYU?

*Abbie & I had a few conversations about the baby in my tummy while we were together. She'd ask quite frequently if the baby was awake or asleep because she wanted to feel the baby. One day Abbie noticed that the baby was sometimes high and sometimes low in my belly when I let her feel where the baby was and she started asking questions. I told her the baby is floating in something kind of like water and has a little room to move around. In response, Abbie says, "You're sure she's not floating in milk?"

*D: When you mix flour with other foods do you know what you get?
A: Broccoli?

*D: When people get married they don't live with their parents anymore.
A: Yeah, they like to go to a hotel!

Haha. Thanks, Abbie for keeping us laughing! We can't wait to hear some of the funny things our own kids will say! :)

Thanks for the help

Thanks to everyone who has left helpful comments to my previous post so far. My friend, T, had a suggestion about naming specific things we're thinking about getting, but I didn't want to be specific at first to see what suggestions we would get. But, here's our list so far. Yes, it's small, but we're just starting our brainstorming:

• Crib (We've both decided we don't want the baby sleeping in our room, but maybe it's not as practical as we think it will be)
• Mattress
• Crib blanket set with bar guard
• Changing table (I kind of feel like I need one because I have a broken tailbone that is probably going to break again during delivery & will be pretty sore for a while so sitting more than necessary is not going to be the funnest thing in the world for me-i.e. sitting on the floor to change diapers)
• Stroller/Car Seat Combo
• Diaper Genie (several people have suggested we get a good one)
• Breast pump (I am planning to breast feed, but people have still recommended getting a breast pump--should I get electric or hand pump?)
• Swing
• Rocker/Glider Chair for me (I picked out a nice comfy one I like since the baby won't be sleeping in our room I wanted a good chair to be in during nighttime feedings)
  

That's all I can think of at the moment. We really are pretty set on clothes thanks to all the hand-me-downs we've already received from my sisters and sister-in-law (thanks, ladies)! I guess right now we're mostly thinking about the big purchases and hoping to get tips on things we haven't really considered. Your comments have all been helpful, but keep them coming!! We are definitely novices when it comes to having a new born, so all comments are welcome :)

5 months

So, as of this week we're 5 months along, meaning we only have 4-ish more months before we get to see our little munchkin! Being the planners & preparers that we are (or try to be) we're starting to make plans for getting Rori's room painted and get all the furniture and gadgets needed for a new baby. (Yes, we have officially decided we're naming her Aurora.) So, as D & I were browsing online last week for things we'll need to get before she comes we weren't completely on the same page with what we think we do and do not need, so we're reaching out for a little advice from all of our wonderful blog-reading-buddies who have kids already.

We're hoping to get some input on what you think are First-Time-Parent-Must-Have's and maybe some things you thought you needed but after having your baby found that some things really aren't necessary. We'd really appreciate the input! :)

P.S. For those of you doing the free earring thing, I just wanted to let you know mine came in the mail yesterday! So pretty!!

Grandma K is 90!!

My sweet grandma is 90 today!, but we celebrated a few days early by going up to Idaho this last weekend to have a big birthday party for her. We had a big shi-bang when she turned 80, but 90 is even better! We had lots of yummy food and lots of fun catching up with family we haven't seen in a while. My cousin Kirsten, who celebrates her birthday the same day as Grandma (happy birthday too, Kirsten!) put together a slide show of pictures we sent in of Grandma over the years. It was great to see the pictures that brought back lots of fun memories with Grandma. I love my grandma so much and appreciate her amazing work ethic, awesome sense of humor, and unconditional love for all of her family members. My grandpa passed away over 30 years ago, but Grandma has stuck in there and is the glue that keeps the family coming back together year after year. My grandma has 8 children, my dad being the youngest, 66 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren (with at least 4 more on the way at the beginning-ish of next year), and 1 great-great-grandchild! Wow! I can't keep track of all those people, but Grandma sure can :) Anyway, here's some of the fun we had with Grandma & lots of family on Saturday. D's sisters gave us a wonderful gift for our birthdays--a date night! I wanted to wait to use the dinner gift card until I was eating meat again so I could really enjoy it and we finally took advantage of our free date and went out to dinner last night. The gift card was for a restaurant in down town Provo called SP^RK. It was super tasty and the atmosphere was really fun too! Thanks Geo & Dre for the gift!!

D got a tasty burger with scrumptious fries!

I got smoked gouda mac & cheese. So delish!

Now we're waiting until a movie comes out that we really want to see to use our Cinemark gift card--2 free dates! WooHoo! Thanks again, guys!

He's a Master now!

Congratulations, baby! It's official! You can now have your students call you "Master D." Only one more step to go when we go to Mississippi in December for you to walk and be hooded! Yay! I'm so proud of you and all your hard work. I love you!

It's a . . .

GIRL!!!!

To be honest, I was a little surprised because I was thinking it was a boy more than a girl, but we are totally excited to be having a girl. We went for our ultrasound yesterday afternoon, and it was such an incredible experience to see our little one & to know that there's really a baby in there :) I couldn't help but shed a few tears of joy at seeing the little baby we'll be welcoming into our family at the beginning of the new year. We are totally stoked that it's a girl & can't wait to see her beautiful face! (Not to mention we're tempted to start making wedding plans with our best friends already because they're expecting a baby boy in November! So fun.)

Talk about being scrunched! Her knees were at her nose! No wonder babies are so flexible when they're so tiny. They have to be :)

Me at 19 weeks - still doing okay without maternity clothes so far!

After the tech took the gender picture she had a student look for the rest of the stuff they needed and as she was looking around for other pictures the tech had the student stop because she got an even better shot and said that it was "textbook girl." She said this one will definitely NOT being coming out a boy. Haha. What's even more exciting than knowing she's a girl is knowing that she's healthy and things are going well. It's such a relief!! It was so cool to see the 4 chambers of her little heart and to get to look at her beautiful little brain. I'm so glad ultrasounds are so much more clear than they used to be and that I was able to pick out what we were looking at most of the time :)

We do have a name picked out--but we still have plenty of time to change our minds so it's still not set it stone, although D keeps singing her name to her already :) The name we're seriously considering for our little munchkin is Aurora Nicole. D picked out Aurora and I picked out Nicole. I think it has a nice ring to it. D keeps singing to my stomach, "Hail to the princess, Aurora" from the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty, which just happens to be my favorite Disney princess movie. I think it's so cute and love that he's in love with her already! Aurora Nicole is a different name than we've been planning on because we felt the other name we've been wanting for years has become too popular for our liking. It was the same thing with the boy name we were planning on originally. I also think that Rori is a cute nickname for our little one.

I started feeling her move pretty much right at 16 weeks. We were sitting in Sacrament meeting at church & then I felt her move again later that same evening and her kicks are getting stronger and more frequent now. Last night was also amazing because D got to feel her move for the first time!! It made me cry again :) I've been trying to get him to feel her move for a while now but just figured it was too early. And every time I'd have him come feel she'd stop moving. Little stinker. But last night around 9:00 she gave him a good kick and he was finally able to recognize it. Yay! What a good day. We are extremely happy and totally excited to have this little one in our family!!

Dakoda's Blessing Day

On Saturday D & I went up to spend the day with my family for Dakoda's blessing. She is seriously one of the most mellow babies I have ever seen & such a joy to be around. We were so happy to be able to participate & to see lots of family and friends. I was also reminded of how grateful I am that my sweet husband holds the priesthood & is worthy to use it--I love you, D!

Miss Koda Bug, we're so glad we have you in our lives! We love you!

Such a happy girl! And she was so good during the blessing. My dad peaked at her & said she took her headband off & was swinging it around & nearly whipped it at someone in the circle. He said he had to close his eyes again really fast so he didn't start laughing. :)

After the blessing we went back to my parents house so D could help move the really cool playhouse my parents have over to Bri's house. What an ordeal! Luckily they had lots of help.
